My teaching philosophy includes the desire to help all students become better decision makers and problem solvers. To do this students need to be reflective and open to making changes and fixing the mistakes and disasters that come up along the way. As a teacher I want to assist students in finding the answers on their own and be a guide for them as they navigate through the curriculum and life. I want to be their lead learner and show them there may not be just one correct way to do things. Teaching students to search for and create a new and better methods to accomplish certain tasks and create critical thinking members of society.
Through the course of the MSET program, my philosophy for teaching has changed. In the past I wanted to help prepare the students for their future by giving them as much knowledge as I could. Now I believe it is my role to teach them how to ask questions and find their own answers to these questions as I guide them through concepts and topics. I want them to be able to collaborate with others and use strategies to find the best possible solutions to their problems. Technology can be a very useful tool in the process of problem solving and critical thinking. Technology allows students to explore many aspects of the world that they are not accustomed to seeing or participating in. It can allow so many new experiences to be practiced. Technology can be a wonderful tool to help keep students engaged and help them learn and grow along the way, but it must be evaluated and used in a way to enhance learning and not take away from the critical concepts being taught. After completing the MSET program I feel as if I am a teacher who asks the students to reflect more upon their decision making process and their reflections to improve upon what they first accomplished. I challenge them to take what they have learned from an activity and make it work for them and reflect upon how they could have made it better. Upon doing this, I am finding myself reflecting upon my lessons and what I can do to make constant improvement to my teaching. Therefore, making me a better teacher every day. |
